28th – 29th August 2010, every year on the last weekend in August
Zunftmarkt Traditional Market of the Crafts Guild
Every year on the last weekend in August handicrafts from the Middle Ages make an appearance in Bad Wimpfen in the tradition of the earlier pottery markets which King Wenzel in 1391 allowed to the Potters Guild of the imperial cities. Visitors enjoy the Crafts Guild Market with its different forms of handicrafts, dancing and music.
You can admire the numerous artistic craftsmen such as lamp makers, wood experts, brush makers weavers and “Swindlers – Fortune Tellers”. But not only the old handicrafts are enticing… Besides the street artists such as jugglers, clowns, dancers etc., the impression of a Middle Ages bustle and colourful scene in the centre of the town is strengthened by strange looking “dirty beggars”. On Saturday the market overseer “Raban von Wimpfen” opens the market at 11.45 a.m. and on Sunday at 10.45 a.m. and leads subsequently the medieval costumed procession of the Market Master “Scultetus de Wimpfen” with his followers.
